23. Ryan Lochte’s Robbery Lie
One of America’s most decorated Olympic swimmers, Ryan Lochte made worldwide headlines during the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio, Brazil, and the headlines were not a positive one. Ryan claimed that he and his teammates, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint while they were celebrating their win earlier in the Olympic Games. The robbery happened at a gas station, where Ryan said they were held at gunpoint by a group of armed men and that they were victims of extortion. However, police and security uncovered Ryan’s lie, and said that the Olympian was intoxicated and vandalized the gas station, for which he was forced to pay fines. The disgraced Olympian later apologized to the world and his teammates for his lie.
